Hello all
Hi everyone.
My name is Kevin and I'm a dairy farmer from South Africa, to cut a long story short the safety in this country is really going downhill. 4 months ago I was attacked on my way to dairy and ended up in hospital for 3 weeks, They took my Toyota hilux and 9mm that I carry for self defence. I wasn't meant to come out alive but I did and still wanted to make a go of it here. 2 weeks ago my wife and I were away from home and some bastards broke into my house and ruined it! The worst part was they broke into my rifle safe and took my Sako 30.06 and Howa 223(hadn't had it for more than a month). Its just got to a stage now where my families safety is more important than where I live so we are looking at immigrating to New Zealand. My brother has already been living in NZ for 5 years or so and is really happy there.
I'm planning on finding work on a dairy farm and looks like Waikato might be where we end up, but we'll see.
Anyway, lots of things to do before it actually happens. I just have a few questions about the best way to go about sorting out my stolen rifle issue. I'm in the process of sorting out the insurance pay out and not sure wether to replace my rifles here or just look at buying in NZ.
The 30.06 I used for hunting Eland, Reedbuck, Blesbuck etc. and the .223 was my vermin rifle, I'd imagine those calibres would cover pretty much all bases in NZ as they do here. I am also busy licencing a 12gauge shotgun. What is the procedure like for importing firearms into NZ?
I'll probably have more questions but this just a start.
cheers guys!

Welcome to the forum, @kevf ... you have been through harrowing experiences... Approved firearms | New Zealand Police has a section on the importation of guns by immigrants. Hope it helps...

Welcome. Wait til you get here and then purchase I reckon.

Welcome Kevin, you sure have had a rough time of late. Shame about your rifles being stolen and house wreaked and sounds as if your lucky to alive. NZ is a nice place to live plus you shouldn't have the same level of crime here but never the less we do have our share of problems too. I would probably get new rifles here but that would depend on your needs over there at the moment.
Dairy farming is a big part of NZ's economy so you should have no problems finding work here.
Take Care.
