Thread: Hello, all the greatest hunters and clubs shooters here

I am Bernie, I come from China. I live in Christchurch, I have been a member of NZHA and CHC Pistol Club member since 2017, I just like to drag myself into the clubs once a while to shoot heavy load, such as 357, 44, 338, 7mm Rem Mag. It is really annoying when people are shooting beside me, because they just complained I am shooting a god damn cannon and want to kick me out, which is not true. I sometimes let them try, then they still said I am shooting a god damn cannon and want to kick me out, which is true. I am not a hunting fancy, because it sounds not quite right to explode some small games with my only 338LM, and unfortunately I just do not have any firearms which would not give me a big bang and some flashback. It feels good when your shooting experience can send you into another dimension.

I am after a DE 44 Mag pistol, or maybe 357 Mag, if you or your known happens to have one who wants to get rid of, then tag me in, give the baby to the right guy - Me.

Dont take it the wrong way...When you get complaining it could also be one of two things: They are genuinely bothered by the loud noise (in which case it s their fault they got cheap ear muffs....) Or they are Jealous and possibly being sarcastic / ironic which is a kiwi way of saying I like what you have but I wont admit it....Some of these subtleties can be lost on those who have learnt english / kiwi as a second language.

I am also a member of NZHA and a 338 is currently allowed unless the rules have changed since I was on the committee. I have personally used a 375 H&H magnum out there and there was no issues there either. PM me if you have any issues and I can pass it on to those who are in charge or talk to those in charge on a Tuesday night.

Oh, and with the 338 it could well be worth asking about the 200 yard range and qualifying for that when you are out there....

Welcome to the forum Bernie. The problem is not with your gun but the design of the NZHA range the way a close roof and closed in sides cause noise to bounce around in a confined space. On the 200 meter range or NZDA range next door sound dissipates better. Also a NZPA and NZDA member so will probably see you around sometime.

I have also been asked to stop shooting a short barreled .223 in one of the deer stalkers ranges. It had a metal roof which reflected the sound.

It's not that they were picking on you but even short barrel rifles in small calibers can make things uncomfortable for other shooters.

@mimms definitely not the ideal cartridge as it runs out of energy at about 2000 yards but OK for the closer ones,plenty of 50 cals out there for rogue rabbits.

Mrs novembersierra once came to collect me from the CHCH NZDA range when she was about 8 months pregnant. The range was cold, she approached and let me know it was time to go.

The range was called hot, I quickly gave her some hearing protection. On the first shot she got a massive kick from novembersierra junior who was unfortunately ill prepared for such an interruption. Oops!

I promptly bought him his first rifle before he was born and here he is 11 years later savouring the recoil of the Lucky 30-06 ZG47 Brno.

Hi, it's a common problem with enclosed ranges where the roof over hangs the shooting tables even .22 can be uncomfortable without hearing protection.
Would a shooting tunnel such as a large diameter pipe extending past the roofline solve this issue I wonder.
I have seen them overseas and thought they were to control muzzle movement but now I'm wondering.

You enjoy yourself Bernie, bang away as much as you like. They hate my muzzle brake down there too, and all the smoke it drives back into the shooting bay on a cold night

LOL Legend! I also only come in the very early morning or late night, when the world is still peaceful, then I wake everything up with my trigger finger. I know the goats are sometimes in the range, I do give them plenty time to walk away, so don't worry : )
