    Hello from Canada

    Hello from British Columbia,
the family and I will be visiting the South Island next March for two weeks and while the kids want to see penguins I want to go hunting! This will be our very first trip to New Zealand!
I am hoping people might be able to point me in the right direction. I'd love to go chamois or Tahr hunting but would also just love to experience the game rich bounty New Zealand has to offer. Happy to chase bunnies or goats!
Happy to return the favour with a hunt here in BC. I am attaching some pics for attention

Good to see someone who appreciates a goat hunt. I'm in the top part of the north island. If you find yourself up this way, I'd happily take you out.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! I am stoked already! Those Tahrs look absolutely wicked! Do they have their cool hide/mane by mid march? Here in Canada black bear just opened and I am getting ready for a couple mountain goat hunts in August as well as a couple sitka blacktail deer hunts in the alpine in July. But your mountains look bloody steep!

Unfortunately tahr don't have big dark coats Mid March. They will be blond then and normally aren't dark until around the rut in May.

Congrats on your awesome mountain goat, that's a dream hunt of mine. Its a bugger the BC regulations don't allow DIY or hunter hosting for us non resident "aliens". If I understand the regulations correctly we can only hunt with a guide?

Welcome to the forum, you will likely find some rather decent folk that are as welcoming as Canadians here. I'm disappointed to see a lack of bribery of maple syrup though

Good intro Christian. As you might have picked up from the couple of penguin viewing advices, you can get some good info here not only on all things hunting and shooting.
If you need any info to help plan the family time part of your trip, this would be a good place to ask.
In two weeks in the South Island you could pack a great holiday into that amount of time or you could easily waste a big chunk of it in the tourist traps. Happy to offer my 2c on South Is holidays, I have done many.
