Ex South African ( lots of us here sorry), been in fine New Zealand for around 3 years now, based in Tauranga. Keen hunter, been out hunting only twice since my arrival, nothing to show for it so far. I hunt with rifle and compound bow.

Keep at it. Work on your bush navigation. You need to be comfortable getting around off track. This means being able to use a map ,compass and GPS.
It will take a while to get used to nz hunting conditions but results will come if you put in the work.
Welcome mate. Lot of deer round, shouldn't be too long til you get amongst them.
