    Hello from Germany!

    Hi everyone,

I’m a 28-year-old from Germany, and I’ll be traveling through New Zealand for several months starting in January 2025. I recently passed the German hunting exam, which is quite extensive and covers both theoretical and practical aspects of biology, firearms handling, hunting laws, and more. My interest in hunting comes from growing up around family and friends who are hunters, though I’m still new to it and haven’t had the chance to hunt myself yet.

I’m particularly interested in gaining hands-on experience in wilderness hunting while I’m in New Zealand. I won’t be engaging in shooting, as I won’t have a New Zealand firearms license due to the short timeframe, but I’d love to help out in other ways—whether it’s guiding, assisting with hunts, or taking care of camp-related tasks.

I have a lot of experience in remote wilderness settings, having traveled extensively in places like the USA, South Africa, and Scandinavia. Growing up in the countryside, I’m no stranger to hard physical work, tough weather conditions, and practical tasks like cooking or repairs. I’m also on a working holiday visa, so I’d be excited to contribute to an outfitter or guide team if there’s an opportunity.

I’d be extremely grateful for any advice, contacts, or recommendations that could help me get involved with the hunting community in New Zealand.

Looking forward to connecting with you all and learning more about hunting in your beautiful country!

    Cheers

Auckland will be my starting point, but I am especially interested in the nature of the South Island and therefore plan to spend most of my time traveling around there. I don't have a fixed itinerary and can move around flexibly. I am open to any recommendations!

What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!

Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

If you end up in the Nelson area after the end Jan I might be able to get a trip away during the week as I only work Friday, Saturday and Sunday. But I am away until end Jan travelling again
