    Hello from Nelson

    Hello all,

First post on the forum but long time reader.

Relatively new to deer hunting, orginally from Nelson, based in London and shot my first deer over in the UK.

Currently back in Nelson for a few weeks (how good), a lot has changed since I was last here so appreciate any pointers on where is still accessible after the floods and what hasn't been 1080'd... hoping to get my first NZ deer while back in the homeland.

Use to do a bit of pig hunting so know the general areas, albeit deer hunting is a completely different game, lots to learn and many kms to walk.

    Cheers,
    DickyBird

    Welcome to the forum.
Deer are in most places around Nelson including Mt Richmond Forest park Nelson Lakes NP and Kahurangi NP.

It is silly spiker time of year as the hinds kick them out of home as they will be giving birth anytime in the next 3 weeks.
Those young tasty deer may be found anywhere from riverflats to tops to outside the hut door if you are lucky.

Putting in a few hours walk to less pressured areas usually pays dividends.
