    Hi

Hey Guys, just wanted to say hi, been on here reading for a few weeks now and i can honestly say I’ve never seen a more positive forum. Good job lads. I currently live in Powell River, BC, Canada (grew up in Aus) and am hoping to get over NZ for 4-6 weeks sometime over Jan/Feb/Mar. BC is great but the winters suck arse, very dark and gloomy kinda sounds like the SI. Looking forward to some sun and hunting over there in your summer. I’ve got an NZ Uncle to visit, Mums side of the family ran a motel called the Tropicana in the 70’s and he stayed when everyone bailed to Aus (dummies) but I can’t recall if it was NI or SI. Once I get a plan together I’ll be posting a few questions but for now most of everything I’ve wondered has been answered by searching and browsing. Been screen shotting like crazy!👍
We’ve got black/grizz bear, blacktail deer, goat, cougar, bobcat and Roosevelt elk around here. Hopefully going up after some goat next month and bear season starts in just in Sept too, blacks only. Elk is draw, grizz hunt is a no go but everything else is over the counter. I’m new to it all, got a white tail in North BC last year, definitely going for a black bear when season opens and hopefully get up the hill and chase some goats next month.

Goodonya for staying straightforward people in this world full of wackadoos 👍
If anyone ever has any questions about BC or hunting over here etc, I’ll do my best to help out so feel free to PM.

    Cheers lads, Jamie

    Welcome aboard Jamie.

    Welcome.

FYI The South Island while cold in the winter is not gloomy - you must be thinking of Wellington.

The South Island - at least where I live - is frequently sunny and warm during the winter.
Snow clad mountains as a backdrop to winter shooting.
We have a contract with Mother Nature - a frost is the prepayment for a sunny day.

    Thanks for the welcome guys.
That’s some great info on the SI weather, yeah I must have got mixed up, my Uncle lives near Wellington…..love those frosty snappy starts to days especially around zero.
Wintertimes, we get socked in for day here in BC at sea level. If you can get up high you can break through but the logging roads can rarely push high enough. It’s a hiking/snowshoe mish if you want to see the sun.
Bear are very common around here, I could have had my first two blacks this spring but was holding out for a big guy I knew was in there. 3 day over a month until season opens again
