Hi All, Newbie(ish) from Hawkes Bay

    Hi all,

I've been lurking around the forums for a while and thought I'd pull the trigger on signing up. You seem like a great bunch to chat with and learn from.

I've always been a keen outdoorsman (not saying I'm any good however, just keen on it...) but have only picked up hunting in recent years in my late 20s.
My mindset is that you can learn anything at any age. Hopefully I get proficient enough to pass some skills on one day.

    Currently running an 18" Bergara B14 .308.
Current purchase I'm tossing up between is 10x42 or 8x42 Leica binos.
And my current side project is trying to make my own little set of digital maps to store all of my GPS and scouting data (because I'm tight and don't want to pay for some US app).

Cheers! looking forward to getting to know you all.

Welcome aboard Roy There is an endless rainbow of things to learn from this place.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

Try "New Zealand (NZ) Topo map" from the play store. Free and you can take a snapshot for offline and save tracks etc

Cheers mate, I just had a look and you get a fair amount of value for a free app.
I love an old Topo 50 and having them on the phone is ideal.

It's a way of remembering something else way older than ramset.

@Rushy I didn't like to mention rainbow, given it's current connotation. No disrespect meant @Roy G Biv and welcome.

Ha ha ha yeh what the hell is that about aye? An alternate Rushy colour spectrum community to the LGBTQ rainbow lot would be the communist (red) Dutch (orange) cowardly (yellow) envious (green) sad (blue) great aunt (violet). Note I missed indigo as nothing came to me old grey matter on that.
