    Hi from Dunedin

    Hey all,

Long time diver, spearo, fisherman, tramper, but newbie hunter here! I'm a postgrad student down in Dunedin, been looking to get into hunting for a while, compliments all the water based outdoor stuff I do. Have a mate who's a big hunter who's taken me under his wing & taken me out on a couple of hunts & to the range. Had a couple unsuccessful hunts (by that I mean didn't catch anything, but to me coming home with a feed is just a small element of getting out there, but I love just getting out & still been learning a lot of valuable stuff), & managed to nab my first deer a couple weeks ago. A nice clean kill on a yearling hind.

With the licence sorted I've just bought my first rifle, a new Savage Model 16 .270 on which I've put a Bushnell Elite 3-9x40 & a gunworks Spartan suppressor. Looking forward to getting out there more, & put what my mate's been teaching me into practice myself.

    Alex

Thought I recognized the name. Welcome, and to Dunedin as well. The hunting is far better than the diving!

Thanks guys! Bugbait, nice clean shot behind the shoulder, through both lungs. Stumbled about 5m & went down hard.

Chalkeye, yeah, the spearo forum page has been dead as hell lately. Been in Dundin almost 10 years now though, just new to the hunting down here. Managed to get out for a quick dip at Blackhead the other night for a few paua. First dive in a while. Great time of the year for flyfishing though so been doin a lot of that!

    yep welcome to the forum.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

Welcome to the forum Alex. I enjoy shooting service rifle, and I have a particular liking for Swedish Mausers...
