    Hi from Dunedin area

Hi all. I have just signed up on here as im looking to get into a bit more hunting and this seemed like a good place for a yarn or two.

Im a mechanic in Dunedin, originally from Wanaka/Hawea. I used to shoot a lot of rabbits (suprise suprise) up home and went out after the odd deer with the old man every now and then but nothing too regular. I would definitly call myself a newbie to bigger game!

Looking to get out and about a heck of a lot more. Im not too familiar with any spots/blocks down here, so if anybody is looking for someone to go for a walk with i could be keen!

    Cheers,
    Sam

G'day Sam, I'm a newbie too and have benefited from the joining the dunedin deerstalkers, with both help ideas and especially the hunts course.

    Thanks for the welcome all!

Stew, im definitly planning on joining the deerstalkers, i can imagine it would be handy even for just contacts! I do like the look of the hunts course, might be able to pick up some handy information there!

Have managed to get out a bit latley, got onto a block for goats up palmerston way, found a fallow doe resting in under some pines around 6pm, we werent allowed to shoot deer on the block but stalked it a bit just for some practice, its been a few years since of been onto one of them now! Managed to get in around 75m or so from her before she noticed and took off. I was quite comfortable that i could have taken the shot if i had been allowed too so that was a good feeling.

A mate and i also went for an explore up the silver peaks, didnt see any sign but damn it was a good walk!

So far apart from the palmerston block that a mate has got us onto i have just been checking out the local DOC areas. Probably pretty well trodden but im just enjoying being out and about at the moment!
