    Hi from the new guy

    Hi All,

Thought I'd better join the forum proper and introduce myself as I've been lurking for a while now.

45yo now and went on my first real hunt at 20, pig hunting with my FIL mate up the Wanganui River, 191lb boar. Got the bug since then. Was in the Army '95-98 then shifted to Oz to work in the mines. Started a pig dog pack with another kiwi over there and spent a few years chasing pigs in the outback, mostly private but a little bit of professional hunting also. Came back to NZ in 2003ish, after a couple of months got the itch to get back in the bush, obtained my FAL and started hunting. Wasn't aware of forums at all back then, didn't know any hunters, just got out there and spent many many days looking for deer to no avail. Then one morning smacked over my first one down Ohakune way and have tipped over quite a few more since. Mostly hunt Pureora's, Tongiriro and Kaimanawa's, generally lean towards different spots in those blocks every time I go out. Hunt with a mongrel dog that has put me on to quite a few deer and tracked every shot one that didn't drop on the spot.

    Welcome to the forum Gaw.
Sounds like the dog might have graduated from mongrel status since he finds all the deer for you

It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
