    Hi from the Sonoran desert!

    Hello!

Newb here, signing in from lovely(cough!) Arizona. My wife is a Kiwi girl, and we're coming to visit soon. We might be able to move there, so it's not just a vacation, but a fact finding tour as well. I look forward to asking some questions about firearms laws and regulations so I know what to pack, and what to sell before we make that decision.
My last visit down there took me to the South island for Tahr and red deer, with a local guy. (I am not the 'wealthy client and high dollar guide' guy).

    Cheers!

    Welcome to the forum mate.

A lot of us are certifiable, but always good for a laugh.

Ask away as there will be heaps of input.

Thanks for the warm welcome! Game species in Arizona include elk, pronghorn antelope, mule deer, coues deer, and javelina. We can also hunt bear, coyote, mountain lion, bobcat, fox, and a few other small furbearing critters. Small game includes rabbit, squirrel, etc. We can also shoot some rattlesnakes. A few lucky people get to hunt bison and bighorn sheep, but most of us can only dream.
We have 3 species of dove we can hunt, and I think 4 kinds of quail. A few intrepid souls here hunt duck and goose, but there's not much water here, so not much waterfowl.
Sounds like paradise, until you have to drive 2-3 hours to hunt, and most big game requires a tag that has to be drawn in a lottery.

For sport shooting, we have some truly impressive ranges, and big competitions happen here a few times a week.
I used to shoot the 2nd Thursday submachinegun matches at Rio Salado, but time and finances have put that on the back burner for a few years now. YouTube has a few of our state finals matches up where you can see the hijinks. They were a real treat.

As for bringing in a Harris hawk... not sure I want that in my suitcase. Those suckers are mean as hell. plus that whole pesky bit about it being illegal to take one from the wild without a special permit or something.
