Hi all was advised by James (thank you James) to provide an introduction so here we go.
Brought up in the central NI and spent my youth venison gathering and trout fishing. We were not people of means so the venison and trout were a staple. That's why I called it gathering.
Times are better now. Have an engineering degree and live in upper NI.
Have been loading for my 308 for nigh on 40 years, and have dabbled in archery. Hold a few titles for sporting small bore as well but do not do that anymore.
Did motocross, enduros for a while and love working with bike motors for performance.
Have been downsizing my gun cabinet for a few years now as do not want excess guns and also just not getting out so much as I used to.
Have a superb Model 2 1957 Brno with night vision, an FX22 Streamline PCP, a reliable Liege SBS 12G and BRNO 308 601. Am also working on a Styre Mauser 7x57. True flite barrel, Mike Collings stock and various other enhancements.
Will be posting a built project record for the Mauser in the near future as this will get me motivated into finishing the rifle. Some would say it was a crime to cut up a good working original 1913 Styre K98, but I new no better at the time, and wanted to create a nice light rifle for my wife. She secured a nice stag with it in it first reincarnation ( shortened barrel, Modified Bolt, plastic stock), so that to me made it worthwhile.
Have included a couple of images as a teaser below, the action photo is with the original barrel. I have done all the jeweling all the new floor plate hinge and hinge release engineering. The bolt was modified professionally. Made a new trigger (stainless with tool steel insert for sear face so the trigger sits to the rear of the guard as opposed to the middle on the standard Timneys. The stock image shows the new trigger. Have a spare bolt shroud as I imported 2 (when you still could) and used the one I like best, the other is available you some on the forum, just want what I paid which was so long ago I cannot remember, I think around 40 bucks. Still have all the original sights, trigger and shroud etc, and they can be free to a good home, the sights were sweated off the original barrel, so include the base rings that encircle the barrel in undamaged form.
Anyway, will be posting some of my informal tests shortly as I have just spent a whole day sorting out a .22 Stoeger RX40 Nitro piston that may be of interest to some members, mainly to do with finding the best pellet. Was extremely enlightening.
Have an FX 22 PCP and constantly out with doing rabbit control in neighbouring land. They are epidemic in Sth AK currently. Am averaging 20-30 every week. Some nights have got 50+. Last year got around 1200.
The FX Streamline is more effective than my Brno 22 not just due to accuracy, but noise is zero so you can shoot around consenting neighbours without scaring them, so you get access to a lot more rabbits to terminate, surgical accuracy and at 30Ftlbs, lethal for rabbits. Running cost is a 10th of a 22RF. Have treid to included a video (MP4), but not sure if I did it correctly, as it is not a youtube video. Maybe not correct to include it in the post, but will try. Update..... did not seem to load so will have to put on youtube, unless someone can otherwise advise how to publish a video here. With night vision and and a PCP, rabbits generally do not bolt once the lead starts flying they just look at the casualties then keep eating.
I do not buy/sell guns as a rule, but as mentioned above am downsizing cause I am simply getting on in life and do not have the need for lots of guns/rifles.
Cheers
