Hi there! New member, new hobby and passion I hope!

    Hi there,

    My name's Colm!

New member here, 24 year old guy, also just about to apply for my first firearms license.

I moved to NZ back in 2011, I'm from the UK (yes, another POM!). I've a permanent resident here and plan on becoming a dual citizen soon!

I've always been interested in firearms and shooting for marksmanship but have never followed it up. I'm open to hunting, but have never tried it (besides fishing).

I'm an outdoors kind of guy, I have been playing a lot of sports here in NZ however unfortunately due to just being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, and the surgery I have to get will mean I can no longer run around (I will be disabled in my left leg for the rest of my life). It's caused me to start looking for some new hobbies, and I've always been interested in firearms for range shooting/accuracy. I'm still going through my chemotherapy at the moment, and moving towards surgery but am keen to start preparing for what hobbies I can get involved with.

Just thought I'd sign up to this forum and say hi, and introduce myself.

I've been interested in and followed firearms on multiple YouTube channels and online (reddit) for a long time, and know a little bit but am looking to get into it a bit more obviously!

Anyways, just thought I'd say hello all, and I may be lurking around the forums now!

    Cheers,

    Colm

Hi Colm if you want to get into shooting and dip your toes a good place to start would be Auckland branch of Deerstalkers. They have clubrooms in Pt Chev. and a great range up behind Kumeu.

Welcome and good luck with your chemo. There are plenty of people on forum into Long Range shooting so you are in a good place.

Thanks all for the kind replies and the suggestion on the Auckland deer hunting branch.

I'll be visiting my local police precinct shortly for my firearms license test and will report back once all done and ready to get into long range shooting! And potentially a bit of hunting - although my limited mobility may slightly hinder that side of things I'm not too sure.
