What is left there these days? It was a vibrant timber town sixty years ago. The first real job my dad had as a boy of fourteen was herding the wild horses out of the hills up the back of Te Whetu so they could fell the trees and one of my grandfathers drove the locomotive that pulled the logs out to the mill and the other ran the cookhouse in the single mans camp. My roots run deep there even though i haven't been there in decades. Do you go in from the Tokoroa or Lichfield side?
