The best advice I can give you is take every chance you can to see your kids, make sure they always come first even over hunting (yeah yeah I know but don't shoot me for saying it). You can never get that time back they grow up so quickly. If you need a talk or a womens view on it just PM me I don't mind.

    Have a great day

Damn straight Karen my boy lives in Blenheim with my ex wife and her new husband, my young feller has been down there for a few years now and he turned 16 last week and time certainly has flown. The one thing I do miss is getting to celebrate his birthdays with him as I only ever see him on school holidays, and for a few years I was really bitter and twisted about that but when I saw his school reports and the way he has been excelling at his school work down there things started to change as it did him good to be down there.

My situation was completely different the kids father didn't want anything to do with my kids especially my daughter, then time passed he started to see the boys occasionally and would ring but never ask about her, I was the one that was angry and bitter and I fought for him to see them but my efforts where wasted, he was killed in a ute vs truck accident 7 years ago now so it was a waste my kids missed out. Its taken a long time for me to forgive myself thinking I should have tried harder, but now I realise that you can lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink. At the end of the day he and his family have missed and are missing out on 3 awesome (well most of the time) kids.
So yeah time is the most precious thing.

I give him all the time his grandfather never gave me because I vowed to never ever be like my father was.
That's great and I am sure your son will always remember those times. Like you I learnt from from my fathers mistakes with me, had no time for me, only my brother. I brought my kids up alone from when my youngest, my daughter was 4 months old shes now 17, eldest is 21, I didn't let them do girls stuff, didn't drag them shopping very often only cause I hated it too, I leased a piggery and land so we farmed, we went to stock sales, taught my kids how to work, we did the fishing and camping thing, they had the slug guns when little, we had fun the cheap way, and that's what they remember and loved about there time growing up. Its the little things that matter not the trendy clothes or playstation etc. Wish there all fathers where like you taking a interest and being involved in their kids life.
