Introduction
Hello all,
Im from Canada and will be planning a hunt up Hoop horn and other areas near Mt. Cook in Nov. I will be going self guided and have some experience out in the Rockies and Alaska for Caribou and mule deer. Im also a high alpine enthusiast doing a few 14kers across the US and Canada.
Im visiting the North Island first and then spending my time touring the South Island after my hunt. I am well aware of the firearm storage regulations and have been trying to contact stores for safe storage during the non-hunting days. I have not had much success so far with being able to get in touch with GunCity. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction?
Nice to meet you!

Welcome aboard. The Gun City chain of stores is owned by David Tipple and his family. The day to day management is in the hands of his sons Matt and Tim who both work out of the store in Christchurch. It may be worth a call to Matt during business hours to sort the storage matter. Alternatively you could appeal to this forum community as dependent upon where you are planning ro be (and when) there may be some among us that are willing and able to assist.

Its really hard without knowing roughly where you will be as we only have two chains Gun city and Hunting & Fishing. But a fair few independents.

Got permission for storage from Hunting and Fishing NZ. If anyone wants to join on the hunt, Id be more than willing to hunt swap with a US hunt of your choosing one day. I've been building up points in Colorado/Wyoming/Utah.

Keep posting on this forum and give us some stories of your hunting at home. There is a great network of people here and I am sure if you get involved before you come over it will help with your trip. Especially if you have a firm itinerary of where you will be when.

Hello all, I had to reschedule some things but now I'm flying directly to the South Island in mid January. All the permits were approved and ill be spending 5 days hunting then touring the South Island for a week. Im thinking about starting in Hoop Horn stream and possibly taking the ferry across lake Tasman. Does this sound like a good plan? Im going to contact DOC to get more information on the Mt. Cook area closer to my hunt dates.
Love the hunting culture here from what Ive seen on the forum. Seems a lot more collaborative than what Im used to in the US.
