    introduction post from Canada

    Hi guys!

    yes another one...
I did read all the other canadian member post collecting information and suggestions. Most of them aren't really active so I decided to jump in and present my self.

for the intro, I'm hunting rifle and compound bow for years, mooses, white tail deer and turkey.
Always working harder than the average hunter here, carrying, walking, tracking, camping, etc... I guess it put me in your low to average local hunter in NZ lol

I do try to plan a hunting trip to NZ but in no hurry! planning is for 2025!
reading map, DOC and gouv info for the last months... but always more questions come from those reading sessions!

Since the forum often come in my research, I quickly understand that making friends here will bring my whole research experience to the next level

I'm not looking for hunting spot or secret to share, I can walk and WILL, the track is my favorite part of any hunt!

I'll keep looking for my answer on past posts, but will ask question for sure!

Welcome - you'll have a great time. There are lots of subtle difference between hunting in Canada and NZ that can trip you up, but it's great.

Also, do yourself a favor and start doing some serious time on a stair climbing machine or climbing staircases with a backpack. Anywhere on the south island the hunting is way steeper than a lot of Canadian hunting.

    thanks for the welcome

missed the forum concept in the last decade, where sharing wasn't showing off and asking wasn't a attention complex lol

I'll be in the south island, targeting Queenstown airport and not to close of the fiord and it's wet weather.

I'll try my questions here before going to specific forum... since it's all newbs questions

even if I didn't post a lot since I joined, I was active with all your GOUV support
the team of the Visitor Centre respond quick and clear!
those of the Firearm service where also awesome!
I now have my test done and firearm form fill

but where a still have question is more about the local details. (and more specific to hunting)
I now have my plane ticket, dates, area set

I'll go to south of Queenstown since there's huge and close DOC area.

I did remove the Remarkables - Wye Creek from my list.
Tell me if it's a mistake to presume that without forest covert red deer will not be likely present?

with in mind that anything touching to the fiordland will drastically increase the amount of rain I'll go trough... I stop my choice (but not limited) to the Eyre Mountain and the Snowdon and Mavora Park next to it.

After this area selected, my main goal was to not pissed of any local hunter, So I'll go end of March, just before rut, and won't be close by anyway of any Huts.
that lead me to target more the Snowdon forest and Mavora Park.
Is it a good option why or why not?

    thanks
