Just another Brit ...
Hello all,
Another Brit here, hailing from Oxfordshire. Travelling over to NZ in July (just in time for the rugga) for work with the family (wife and 2 kids). Going to be living near Takapuna and working at North Shore Hospital in Auckland for 12 months.
I'm a keen hunter, fisherman and spearo back in the UK. I mainly stalk Muntjac/Roe/Fallow deer and hunt wildfowl on the coasts.
Looking forward to immersing myself in the kiwi culture and hopefully getting to experience some hunting and fishing adventures during my time in the country.
I'd like to plan a Tahr/Chamois trip to the South Island at some point so any information/advice would be greatly appreciated. Keen to camp out and get into some deep country if possible for a week. Also very keen to catch my first Snapper/Kingy and hand dive a decent cray!
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Steve

Welcome, we need more medics in our health system that’s for sure. Plenty of options for snapper & kingis within an hour or 2 of Auckland, especially if you have a boat or a mate with one. Tahr & chamois are Sth Is mountain missions.

Welcome, my best mate is a doctor at north shore, he’s hunting and fishing whenever he can.
When you’ve posted enough to be able to send PM’s (personal messages), send me one.
Have you bought any diving / fishing / hunting gear / firearms over with you?

welcome, but just remember the only difference between auckland and a yoghurt.
while both leave a sour taste in your mouth but yoghurt has an active living culture

@gonetropo that is by far the best Auckland joke I have every heard!

@hunterdoc judging from your photo you are going to fit right in! Also looks like you have your work/life balance right, saving life and killing stuff! Good luck on the missions.

Welcome, plenty of ex Brits on here although I consider myself English and New Zealand

Welcome.....good on you for coming here and giving it a go...never know you might decide to stay.

Thanks @Seventenths, will make sure to contact you once approved for PM's.
Planning to bring my wetsuit/fins/speargun and a few rods with me. Have a decent boat rod setup that I've used for hauling big cod and halibut out of the deep in Norway. Unfortunately bringing my guns over is looking to be too costly - a shame as I have a nice Tikka M695 6.5x55 with a NightForce scope that is a great all-rounder. Will be bringing my binos/hunting gear etc though.
Catch up soon!

You're not the first person to say that ;) ... Never say never!
