Gidday all,
Intro, I am in Taupo, have hunted possums and rabbits in the past (long distant). Cancer took my partner 18mths ago and am re-learning with our firearms, in particular his BSA Hunter .222. Lovely rifle and am spending time at the range getting to know it and getting to a point of accuracy with it as I want to go deer hunting. Some very informative reads on this sight for someone with not much experience at this point. Thanks for the in.

welcome aboard, theres plenty of 222 enthusiasts around and its a good caliber. i would suggest something with a little more oomph for pigs and large deer though

Good morning @KATie Condolences on the loss of your partner. Cancer is an indiscriminate killer which touches so many families. More strength to you in getting back into hunting and shooting. Your triple two Hunter is a legendary rifle and should be a laser beam, like my Weihrauch 222. It is inherently a very accurate calibre. Accurate bullet placement is critical when using two calibre riflrs so when you are practicing down on the range, make sure you don't just practice prone. Try sitting, kneeing, standing offhand and leading against a tree (or post on the range). Happy hunting!

hi katie, any chance you are related to jane howie that worked at nzfs in the 70's thru 80's?
i know she came from around there.
anyways, there is a huge amount of free info available here for shooters, enjoy the forum and its always ok to ask questions even if you feel embarrassed to ask them. its better ask than make a mistake.
