    Cool New bloke

    Hey there fellaz and felleses,

This will be my first gun forum. I'm just about to get my licence and am keen to get my own guns soon.

I have some mates who have their licences and more than just a few guns and I now have caught the bug.

I'm looking for opinions on first rifles for a wide range of game.

    Nice to meet yas

The best rifle to get is the one you like the best.

308 is a good all round calibre, as for make and model, whatever turns you on in your price range really.
Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Welcome along when your learning there's no substitute for round down the barrel. Join deerstalkers or a rifle club and get known most people will happily give you a go with their rifle. Most of us older guys learnt to shoot with single shot ·22s, knowing there's no quick follow up really helps your concentration. So a bolt action.22 May be a good starting point.

Welcome Ocky. I still have that Lithgow Arms single shot .22 Marty. It was actually my dad's when he was a young fellah.

Ocky, our recently departed mate would have told you not to get a .243 or a .270 as they are gay.

It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

Ha ha ha ha. This thing of the old man's has never been so secure. It used to sit in the back of the wardrobe when I was a kid.
