    New FAL in Auckland.

    Hi all. I've recently got my license and am keen to get in to a bit of hunting around the North Island. I'm an ecology student and am really keen to get out and enjoy the outdoors while having some fun hunbting. I'm also a bit of a nerd about the history of firearm's engineering and gunsmithing. I'm keen to get in to some black powder stuff at some point as well as reloading for smokeless stuff.

    Welcome and good luck. I can't help you much with locations or hunting trips but I can suggest getting in contact with the Sika Foundation.
    They are often looking for volunteers and they get heads up on hunts. Plus someone with your background may be beneficial to them.

    Welcome @Finch I've got an old book on the history of weapons if you're interested. I'll probably be able to drop it off sometime as you're in Auckland if you don't mind a wait. Check my old threads to see a pic of it.

    It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
    What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
    Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
    Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
    Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
    Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
    Rule 5: Check your firing zone
    Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
    Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms
