    New Member Intro - Dunedin

    Hey team,

Have just signed up to the forum and thought I'd introduce myself.

I grew up in Canterbury and have been regularly (but rarely successfully) tahr hunting for quite some time. Moved to Dunedin to study and got into some more unsuccessful hunting in Otago. Then moved to Auckland to keep studying and unsuccessfully followed Sika around in the Kaimanawas.

At the start of this year I moved back to Dunedin (thankfully for a job this time). I've been going on a few (semi-successful) hunts in the Catlins since then, as well as a few in various Central Otago locations. I've also convinced my wife that it's a good idea to turn our Golden Retriever, Zig, into an indicating dog. Zig has a couple of deer under her belt now and is doing pretty well. We spooked another this morning but I'll take the blame for that.

Disappointed to hear about the recent 1080 drop in the Catlins - this was the area I loved taking the dog, so can't do that for a while now. Hopefully it will recover well and be back in action soon. Any thoughts on how long I should wait before taking the dog back in would be appreciated.

Anyway, great to be on board, looking forward to contributing to the forum and hopefully meeting a few people.

Southerners should be enjoying the heat while it lasts!

    Cheers,
    Elliott Dunn

    Welcome Elliott.

Welcome mate, make the most of it before the drop. I think the caution period is 4 months but i would think it would be longer for a dog and a nice looking dog to

    Thanks for the warm welcome!

To clarify - the drop was made on October 13th and not particularly well publicised. They have new signs in the area but they look veerrrry similar to the old signs. So much so that I went in a few days after the drop and didn't notice. I was only told about it a few days after by a mate who pointed me to a thread on this forum. Pretty lucky that the dog didn't get done over then and I'll be sure to take more notice of the signs in future.

    Happy hunting!

    Welcome!
I’m on the flight path to the Catlins and on the morning of the drop five choppers flew over, from that I take it there must have been a massive amount of 1080 dropped, bugger!

    Welcome to the forum.
Amazing how the greenies tell us that we have to drop poison to protect the 'native trees and species' and save the climate.......all in the name of saving the planet from nature and its own will. Law of nature is adapt or die.
