    New Member Topdog

Just come back to NZ after being away for 18 years, should never have left. Changed from shooting to Hare coursing ut still have a fantastic Working Cocker Spaniel coming here from the UK in 9 weeks time. On the lookout for Lurcher breeding stock now to get stuck into the Hares. If anybody knows anyone with anything decent let me know please. Deerhound Greyhound First X or Collie Greyhound First X or Saluki instead of the Greyhound.

    Cheers

    Welcome Topdog. And welcome home.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

    Welcome Topdog.
Where about in the UK did you live?
There are a heap more hares to get stuck into over here. Don't know anyone with suitable dogs here, but I used to enjoy getting out with friends and their dogs back home for a mooch about.

Hi Matt2308 I came from up North of Newcastle in a place called Ashington, there's been tremendous hare coursing dogs up there for over 80 years now, its from the old mining town days where there were lots of poachers. I'm looking at bringing dogs in and breeding my own as I'm struggling to get anything at all. I was at a lurcher show the other week and not one dog was worked "everything had flat feet so I'm not sure if they were walked let alone worked". Ample hares where I'm living if I get sorted one day I'll give you a shout if you fancy some good old fashioned coursing.

    Pengy,
Definitely the better of the 2 places, and yes I did spend a bit of time with some of the Pikeys "not all of them" and there was some bloody good dogs around believe me. Cannot wait to get into it here though.

The old mining towns certainly produced some good lines.
I'm currently back in Hathersage visiting family. Have a couple of friends from Barnsley that will be over later in the week for a mooch about with their dogs. I'm lucky to have built up a lot of permissions that I controlled the foxes and vermin on over many years. I managed to get out last night and shoot a vixen that had been seen around a friends pheasant pens.
Let me know what dog you end up with. I would love to get out for a mooch!

    Matt,
Good for you mate , get out as much as you can when you are over there. I hate the bloody foxes and shit have I had some sport with them over the years with the terriers and lurchers. My nephew does well with them & he averages about 30 a year just with the terriers and he's done the same this year but he's at about 25 already. When I get sorted with something I'll keep in touch. I hate seeing the dead hares around everywhere knowing that they've croaked without having a good lurcher throwing them all over on a good race during their life.

    Welcome to the forum.

How do you catch the hare in the first place for coursing?

All I have seen of it is the movie "snatch"
"Hunting and fishing" fucking over licenced firearms owners since ages ago.

308Win One chambering to rule them all.

I don't think they release a hare, just go to a field where there's likely to be a couple... I think
