Welcome to the battle for the birds
Alright I will throw you a bone.
drive up the wangapeka over the concrete ford and anywhere you can legally gain access to doc managed land (Google wams ) and hunt the fringes of doc/private.
Lots of goats and pigs and a few deer in the area, or at least there was before the biggest 1080 drop in history.
In my experience it doesn't affect goat numbers much if at all and pigs always seem to do ok after a drop but I would-be wary of eating a pig in a drop area.
Your a good fella Cam
Dam tablet key boards i should of checked it before i put it up lol
thank you for the bone veitnamcam.....:thumbsup:
If you've got a trail bike, ride up the Maungatapu track from the Nelson side (can't take 4WD 'cuz of the locked gate), and hunt the track through to the Dew Lakes. Always a few deer crossing over the saddle.
Good luck Wildhunter.....welcome aboard....
Always used to be Goats up the South Branch of the Riwaka river .
I must admit its been a long time since I've been there , but Goats are Goats and don't change their habits easily .

@veitnamcam
As most people don't have info on legal access, this info need a bit of an update! Cross over the Dart ford and drive up the road for another 8Km until you are at the rolling junction. All the land on both sides of the Wangapeka river before the dart ford is PRIVATE, All the land on the TRUE RIGHT side of the Wangapeka river after the Dart ford is also PRIVATE until the DOC Kiosk. You will need to cross PRIVATE land to gain access to the TRUE LEFT of the Wangapeka river after the Dart ford (so don't do it!)
If you can follow all that go for it! Oh, and you cant hunt with a firearm 1km each side of the Wangapeka track.
Or you could just go up the Hacket or Mount Duppa
The owners after the ford are very happy for people to cross their 80 od meters of land if asked.
