Thread: New from New Mexico

A good friend from Nevada turned me on to the sight and I made a couple posts before I spotted the introduction section so here goes.

I'm a retired old fart that lives to hunt and fish. I grew up hunting to put food on the table at home, dad would pay me a nickle(5 cents) a rabbit and 22 shells were a penny/each at the hardware store, they had a big bowl of them on the counter. In the summer I prowled the river bringing bass, catfish, pan fish home for the table.

My dad took me hunting and fishing with him from the time I could walk.

I've run traplines over Wisconsin and Minnesota and was a trappers education instructor in MN and a district director for the Minn. Trappers Assc.

I did some ADC work for Minn and Wisc. mostly beaver control and hunting feral dog packs, for fun I would hunt fox for bounty in the early 1960's it was good practice as 15 years later they were worth $100/ea for the pelts.

In the interim mid 1980's to now I've done a lot of upland hunting and training birddogs, I'm a retired AKC Spaniel Hunt Test Judge and past president of the Mount Rainier Sporting Spaniel Assc.

Since I've retired I mainly hunt ducks and coyotes. I travel in converted commercial van set up for off the beaten trail travel some years I've spent up to six months of the year living in it hunting and fishing. I have a very wonderful wife that gives me a lot of freedom. I usually get to hunt coyotes in 4 or five states and have coyote hunting acquaintances in most of the states west of the Mississippi River(it cuts the US in half from the Canadian border to the golf of Mexico)

Reading your post on bushing dies, you seem to enjoy the wildcat cartidges....good on you, not so mainstream

Top pic: Bernardelli combination gun 12ga/5.6x50R Magnum Leupold 1-4x20mm scope. 1 1/4 oz NP BB's for the 12ga, 52gr Speer HP for the rifle

Bottom: Wilkes 1926 Drilling 16ga/16ga/6.5x58R Sauer. 1 oz NP BB's in a 2 1/2" hull for the 16ga, 90gr Speer HP resized from .264 to .260 to fit the oddball bore of this rifle , it will shoot .257 bullets fairly well but I worry a little about blow-by eroding the bore on irreplaceable rifle barrel.

Yes I'm an avid wildcatter I started necking up the 204 case the year after ammo was released for sale. If I were to do it today I'd work with the new 22 Nosler case as it would fit a true small action with the larger bullets. I could then build on mini-Mausers, Sako Vixens, CZ 527 or mini-Howas.

I'm working on the 9.3x72R paper patched, I've fired a couple but need to have a sizing die made for my lubricator, too many irons in the fire.
