    New Plymouth newby

    Hi guys.
My name is Ruan Smal and we recently moved to NZ. Grew up with hunting and the passion for rifles, reloading and shooting kept on growing. In the process getting a few rifles back into my safe. Also keen to find out if there are a few ranges close to New Plymouth that one can use.

    Hi Raun. Welcome.

The pistol club out by the airport has a 100m rifle range.
If you join the club and compete the RO course you can get a key and use it any time they are allowed to shoot ( something along the lines of 9am to 9pm)
Or Taranaki Sports Shooters Association have access to a property with 400m for members but its during times that suit the land owner.

What sort of shooting / hunting did you do?

Hi Nugget C. Thank you for all the helpful info.

Shooting included f-class (only started getting into it and was hoping to get into ftr here in NZ), long range shooting, clay pigeon, competitive .22 when a few years back, big bore, air rifle and handgun.

Hunted over the entire South Africa from thick bush to open country, flat and hilly. Species ranged from birds to eland and zebra and did a lot of springbuck hunting.

Looking forward to learn from you guys.

To do F/Ftr you will have to travel.
cheltenham rifle club near fielding to the south or otorohanga rifle club to the north.

I post all of the TSSA long range and field shoots on here.

    Welcome.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
