    G’day everyone,
I’m getting into hunting (I’m 22), about to buy my gun safe so I can apply for my license.
I live in the Hamilton area so will be hunting around Pirongia, the Kaimai’s and the Mamaku’s, I’m tossing up between getting a .243win and a .270win, I’ve spoken to a family friend who suggested .243win would be about right, but I’m a little iffy about its stopping power with the bigger deer we can apparently get around here. Going to try get on the next local HUNTS course.
Cheers all, glad to be here!

Welcome to the forum KiwiMaverick. A .270 will do any animal you decide to hunt in NZ, so if your not going for the good old 308 I would go with one of them
