    Newbie

    Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and new to hunting. We take our 3 kids tramping, so are hoping to build hunting into the experience. My husband got his first beast recently, so we all enjoyed a goat dinner.*I don't have a lot of experience with firearms; I'm planning to head to the range now daylight savings is near. Getting my firearm licence helped to remove some of the mystery and fear about using firearms.

My husband is on this forum a lot and tells me what he's been posting about and learning from different people, sometimes with quite varying views.

I'll be checking out the hunting, dogs and recipes forums. Hoping to get lots of tips and posting some of my own experiences. I wonder how many women are on this forum!

My wife like hunting too, just has difficulty to manage a rifle or shotgun, but she likes to go with me all the way. Yeah, I have seen lots of goats in your area, but do `t have chance to shoot and cook one. If you like hotpot, goat is better than sheep. Good luck for your FAL!

Thanks. Yes, I'm glad goat (at least that one) wasn't as strong tasting as I was expecting. Hopefully we'll get more to try in the near future.

Yes I find the rifle quite heavy after a while holding it, so that can be a challenge. I'm hoping to get my own one day - find one that fits me better. It is good to have a shared interest like hunting as a couple. So much to learn, and great rewards!

Great to hear other couples are hunting/shooting together.
The how-to butchering videos we've watched have been quite popular with the kids. Good age to get talking about it all.

We went tramping with the rifle over new years, and my husband had to take it everywhere with him. It'll be easier now I can look after it too.

We are looking forward to filling up that freezer and having the rifle pay for itself. We've had a taste of wild meat, so hopefully it'll continue to be on our table.

Welcome, I hope you enjoy your hunting and the food you get to eat with it.
It is amazing all the different cuts of meat you can get off an animal and so many different ways to cook it.

Venison pies are yummy, slow cooked shanks, steaks, roasts, hams, bacon, sosies, ribs, silversides and stews to name a few.

    A great hobby, enjoy
