    Newbie from Napier

Good afternoon all, well after leaving my (legally held) guns back in Belfast some 15 years ago, my wife has agreed to let me apply for my NZ licence now that our boys are old enough to understand that guns can be dangerous if used incorrectly.

Currently waiting for the card in the post, done the Safety course and the home visit and that all went well

Off to Ben Lomond on Sunday with the Taradale RSA for some practice but looking forward to being able to get my own rifle...

Just cant decide what to get as my first gun!

Welcome Keltic. For the sake of your (and my) sanity, please please do not ask what rifle/cal you should buy
My late Father in law was a Belfast boy, (Falls rd) but spent his last 60 yrs in England. I dont think he ever went back to NI.

Just saw that on another forum so I am going to have a shoot with several different rifles/cal on Sunday and see which I prefer.

Welcome KK. There are a big bunch of members on here from down your way. Heed Pengy's advice as the ensuing debate on makes and calibre's would drive you nuts.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

Go have a try of all that's on offer with the Rissa boys, then go buy yourself a 308 and get hunting.

    Cheers
