It sounds like you are sorted, starting on the .22 is a great idea and is very cheap to run while putting rounds down range. Just remember that when moving o to a centerfire that you will have to adjust to the increased recoil and sound so an understanding of recoil management and good trigger control will set you up transitioning from the .22.
