    North Auckland newish shooter

First message was an error, so this may duplicate.

I found this site kept coming up when Googling stuff on shooting.

There’s a lot of collected knowledge here. I hope to learn a lot and hopefully one day be able to contribute something useful.

It would be great to have a range nearby for regular shooting. There are surprisingly none near Warkworth that I can find. Driving 90min one way is not ideal. I would rather spend the money on ammo, not petrol.

    Any suggestions welcome.

Welcome. Join NZDA North Auckland to get access to their range in Riverhead.

FWIW I drive 90 mins each way to shoot clays at either Kaikohe or Kumeu. Closer clubs are Whangarei, Marua, Whatitiri and Dargaville, but one way or another, unless you've got your own acreage or know someone who does, you'll be driving some distance.

    You’re right. I shouldn’t complain too much.
I long for the day when shooting ranges are as normal as driving ranges.
I may come down to NZDA. It’s not that far. When I did check them out, I was told they focus more on hunting.
I have some small acreage, but I’m not sure how the neighbours would respond to anything bigger than 22LR.
I’m new to the area so still feeling them out.

    Welcome mate

Feel free to put up your ideas as well. It's an open debate a lot of the time, nobody will bite your head off lol.

    Welkom Japie.

Hope you manage to get onto a range real soon. What type of shooting are you interested in? Plinking? Something simular to Veldskiet(Field shooting), Bisley or Target Rifle as its known in NZ, PRS/NRL, Sillouette, Bench rest maybe?

Its a bit of an adjustment, but Im sure you'll manage.

Thanks Jaco. Just plunking and targets at this stage. Want to get into long range shooting though. Hunting only later.
There’s a Swiss club nearby that does that but only open to Swiss nationals or Swiss heritage, not open to those from the old republic.

I’ve invited the neighbours around to get to know them. Apparently regardless of what I’m allowed to do on my land, if someone feels nervous, I have to shake.

Great stuff mate. If your on face book search Gillice Precision Rifle Events, Taranaki Long Range Shooters, and NZ Precision Rifle Series, read up on these and you'll quickly get into it. All of the above mentioned groups host long range comps.
