Palmerston North Rookie

Hi everyone,

I have recently decided to get into hunting (don't know why I have left it so late). I have been out with cousins years ago but nothing since. I have always loved hiking into the bush, camping and everything that goes with hunting but never actually taken it up. Very excited to get out there and gain some knowledge. Will look to hit the northern Tararuas and/or southern Ruahines around P North.

Question: Where's the best access points into the top of the Tararuas?

Pretty much have got all my gear sussed, just waiting for my FAL to be processed - taking aaaaages.

Join your local deerstalkers club. They will probably have regular club hunts (Upper Hutt does) Great way to learn and meet other local hunters.

Have a look at South range road through the council, but need a key. Seen a couple up there from the track on last light. Takapari road, copper mine creek, Otaki forks. There's quite a bit around us. Ive got places I haven't been to yet which I want to check out but my work life balance is all up the f*ck for now.
