    Cool Scott from Christchurch

    Hi there.

I am new to this forum and pretty new to hunting. I am a teacher in Christchurch so have plenty of holidays to make good use of. I have a .22 and a .308, and have hunted around the Rai Valley in Nelson, Arthurs Pass, Lewis pass, and Whataroa. I have shot some deer, chamois and rabbits/hares. Have a car, can travel, so trying to make the most of summer at the moment by getting out for some hiking and camping whenever i get the chance.

I like getting out on my own, but also keen to hook in with other hunters for some getaway adventures.

Keen to spend more time out around lewis pass and arthurs pass, or other areas closer to Christchurch. Haven't got much experience getting up into the mountain tops and would be keen to get a few pointers on getting to some areas.

Spent last weekend up the doubtful river in Lewis Pass, tried to climb up from Windy Point in Lewis Pass to get up onto doubtful range but I was defeated by thick scrub, so crossed the river further up and hunted the valley instead. Alas limited sign throughout the river flats and side valleys, guess the deer are all up high for summer where I thought they might be. Walked upon a few deer as I climbed through the bush though, but they got the better of me and scampered. Found a neat little hut hiding in the bush off the doubtful track too (if anyone knows what/whos that is lol).

Also keen to learn a bit more about keeping meat good after a kill. This summer heat is a bugger and poses a few challenges when hiking into a distant valley.

Anyway, would post a few photos but I think I have to post five times before that is possible. So shall save them for another time.

    Cheers,
    Cyclops and Sideshow like this.
