Hi guys!
This topic has been covered before - I know, but each year new models hit the market. So what´s the latest and greatest?
Which camera has the best resolution at distance and has an appropriate display accordingly?
Required main features would be as less weight as possible , max. zoom range, good immage stabilization, good display! I know this is most likely a tradeoff.
I would upgrade from a Nikon Coolpix 600!
Any thoughts? Would love to hear your opinion!

If just for long range, a magview on your spotter and cell phone take some beating.
I'm currently looking into this.
I tried to see what Tasman uses in his videos but can't quite make it out, I did see though that Rogee uses a Canon SX70 for his videos. They ca be had from PB tech at the moment for around $1050 with a 65x zoom. If I had the spare cash its what I would be buying, but due to unforeseen circumstances I cannot right now.

I really like my Canon Powershot SX740hs
The optical zoom on them is "only" 40x but they go up to 80x on digital and it is a really nice crisp digital zoom unlike a lot of other offerings which turn to crap once you're outside their optical range. The camera itself is super compact also compared to most super zoom cameras so it fits nicely in it's case on my bino harness or on the waist belt of my pack without getting in the way. Easy easy to transfer videos and images direct to phone with Bluetooth and you can even use your phone as a remote view finder for taking super steady shots on a tripod etc.
I have been using a Panasonic TZ80 for quite a few years now. Photo quality is good but by no means up to professional standard. I briefly had a Canon SX60 but I found every time I went out I reached for the smaller camera. If I were to buy again I would go for something of a similar size to my Panasonic (like the Canon SX740hs). At the end of the day I am a hunter that takes photos, not a photographer that hunts, so I don't need super quality.

If the question is solely on resolution, and members are interested in posting representative images, we can build up a bit of a database for answering exactly the question posed by the OP.
The SX740 is small, light, has a great menu layout — it's a pleasure to use. But the resolution is perhaps as to be expected for the size, and in my view is being over-sold by Canon.
Forgot to mention. The photo of the Fallow buck was taken in good light at about 60-70m.

I had a look into the Canon Powershot SX740hs. From what I see it is similar to the size of my Nikon and has pretty much the same zoom range. The digital zoom of the Nikon is not as good as yours it seems.

Yes, certainly true, we are hunters not photographers after all, but I thought I can find something as light or almost as light as my Nikon 600 with a bit more Zoom range and latest technology.

I`ve seen your comparison and found it very interesting. Maybe I have to have a closer look at the smaller camera.

I went from the Canon SX60 to a Nikon P900. One thing that bugs me is the weight of the P900. Great zoom but you have to carry a tripod to get the best out of it too.

An extra six or so hundred grams for a camera doesn't make sense to me. Especially with the quality of most phone cameras now.
One really good feature of the Mag view is it is a very good lense cover. Way better than the crappy little rubber cup that comes with the spotter.

The Nikon p950 is good. Can find it on special from time to time from the likes of Noel Leeming. A few extra batteries from Ali and a charge pack powered off a battery bank.
I’ve moved to a magview on a Swaro similar to 7mmwsm above. One thing that I have noticed is when the magview is put on the Swaro ATC is makes viewing through the spotter a bit awkward. It prevents my eyeball from properly “getting in”, restricting the available field of view. I’ve not found a solution for that yet, but with an iPhone, fantastic.
Yes the P900 does have an image stabiliser built in. It was a spotter or camera I was looking it - the camera won out for great animal pics up to 250 metres out of the heat (heat shimmy ruins many pics). Distance viewing to check size of animal - pic is secondary for max zoom. Photographs submitted to most hunting magazines or competitions - doubt many cellphones pics make the grade - so one of the magazine editors told me.
My older Canon SX60 was doing the hard yards but at its limit for zoom (got me placings in competitions & in a few magazine publications).
What I did forget to check on the P900 was that you cannot fit a remote audio mic on them - just have to use the in built one for recordings - very average. As always, I carry two spare batteries. Aside the P900 has taken great video from a heli when chasing deer in the alps. Again doubt a cellphone could zoom in and provide descent field of view while keeping steady. Those that know me have seen my pics/vids.

Seems like a Nikon 900 or a 950 might be a good upgrade from my Nikon 600.

I still have a Nikon D200. Me and my wife took many fly fishing pictures over the years. Some of them made it into magazines and books.
We love that camera. But for the same reason (weight issue) we switched to a Z50 which makes good pictures too and weighs 500 gramm less. Thats a lot! The D200 is simply too bulky and heavy in comparison.

Problem with the "just use a spotter" mindset is you are then stuck in one place, on a tripod, to take a photo or video of anything. Funny how everything has done a complete 180 a few years back if you looked on the forum everybody would tell you not to waste money on a spotter and buy a sx50. Camera has its place, so does a spotter.

I’ve been using a SX60 for about 5 - 6 years now. Still does the trick. The only time I prefer a spotter is tahr hunting where evaluating horns just can’t be done the same with the camera. I’m a hunter though not a photography guru.
