Looks like a caramelled latte trapdoor?
@Maca!!!! It is not!!! More a mocha I would have thought!!!
Thank you, Pengy:) So it is a banded tunnelweb...the body including head is about an inch long...
Just a small one EeeBees. There was a big sucker found in the Wairarapa in the last 2 weeks, they ooze a lot of gunk when you squash em. Used to catch them as kids in the Wairarapa
Well cool. I love spiders.
Probably a tunnel web? They live in holes in the ground usually filled with cobwebs, we used to call them trapdoors, we use to catch them in jars for pets, used to get some biggies, I remember!
I cant believe no one else has said it ...... EAT IT .....with pics to prove .....give you a doller
They are not poisonous but can give you a nasty bite and there fangs are none to clean...
Apparently recently some hunters in Kaiangaroa forest came across a Australian funnel web which I believe is the first sighting in NZ .
Not being picky but wouldn't it be an entomologist?

Thank you very much, Guys...the funnel web spider is certainly one to be cautious of...my brother used to be a feller in the gums in Victoria and speaks of them...scary!!!
The bastards can live upto 3 days on the bottom of a pool. They walk around hunting (like right into your house). Their venom is lethal to humans but does nothing to cats or dogs.
No 1 Rule for Australia - NEVER turn over a piece of corrugated iron unless you want to mess with whatever is under it (and there WILL be something)
That's a bit harsh, Neckshot!!!:D:D:D
I used to be cycle courier, one day I had a drop off at the docks in some quarantine office thingy, whilst waiting the guy showed me some of the things that had come in, damn scary stuff, he had a bunch of dead stuff and tanks of things yet to be killed, damn gotta say coconut spiders (hair, less) sure look creepy!
