Get Canon camera connect if you have a smartphone. Free app.
You can control cam with your phone and download images quickly to your phone to save using the shitty res screen.
I never got near any power for weeks at a time in Canada and had no dramas with phone or camera power.

These Canon cameras have pretty much the same controls menus for all.
    Auto mode is good.
The other modes all have their place.
Play with it as much as you can.
Suss out the video mode run some sheep around the yard and see how you get on.(nearest to sport speed)
The old rules such as where the sun is still applies.
Take spare charged battery and enough memory.
Have a look on YOUTUBE such as here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIwuTQl1jKE
It is easier than reading the manual as you fiddle with the camera.
You will find you will take some really good photos and video.
Under no circumstances try to teach your wife you will have to use subtle strategy.
