I got a p950 for the "wife" for xmas and I rate it as a spotter.
This guy was 1800m-2k away in shit light. Its a little bulky but takes good pics and has great zoom. Attachment 169549Attachment 169550

Ive got the sx70, and to be honest, its streaks behind the p900 range
I have a SX70 and very pleased with it but can't say I've used it as a spotter. The extra zoom on the Nikon (83 x zoom I think they are )would probably be an advantage if using as a spotter, but they are substantially bigger and heavier than the Cannon if that's a consideration. Cheers
