17 Terminator

I got my 17 Terminator (17-204 Ruger) back from Scott yesterday.

It has a True-Flite UM barrel, Tikka T3 action, Stug stock, little Sonic .224 suppressor.

I'm very happy with how it has come together.

Initial testing has shown it has plenty of grunt, it will happily push the 25 grain Vmax at 4300 fps.

Here it is next the 40gr Vmax 204 & the 53 Vmax 223.

Unfortunately the weather has been mud this weekend, 20-30 mph winds don't help, so I haven't finished load development for accuracy & final velocity.

Thats one cool little round.

Keen to see some results.

very cool, I could say I want one too but my budget is already well and truely blown :)

would certainly make a mess of things, my only worry would be barrel life as being a varminter might get a bit hot :thumbsup:

Certainly something that concerned me a little so it will be running on a ball powder, apparently they are easier on barrels ???

This makes the 204 Ruger seem pretty average.

A quick calc suggests its slightly better than a factory 32vmax 204 for drop and drift (and catches up for energy at about 600 if that matters), and marginally better than the factory 40vmax for drop but a similar amount worse for drift (and way behind for energy).

So I guess by 'pretty average' you mean 'about the same, but without the hassle' ;)

Having "exploded" many bunnies with the 204 & 40s I'm looking forward to comparing the carnage with the 25s :)

I'm building a sister 22 Terminator 1-7 twist rifle to shoot the 90 Bergers, they aren't as spectacular but man do they buck the wind right out there :cool:

Took the 6.5 Wsm & the 17 Terminator for a walk last night.

Weather was pretty good considering, nothing much out & about though.

Managed to fire a couple of shots, this one was approx 150 away.

Yep no to bad, but not much holding it together either.

Put it in another stock today & took it to the range.

Took the 17 Terminator to range again this weekend.

I have settled on the load, I worked on trying to bring the ES down a little, with some success.

The 25 grain V Maxes are certainly screaming along :)

Very happy with how it preforms, just need to get a heap loaded up and go & shoot some bunnies :cool:

About the same as the 204 with 40s out to 4-500 but flatter, quieter & less recoil ;) :D
