Freeze dried food options....whats your favourite???

hi guys, im looking into buying some freeze dried foods as a reduce weight option in my pack....

im after FLAVOUR advice, nothing else, i know they will all give me nutrition (i hope)

two people on my last trip both voted for 'Back Country' Thai chicken curry or 'anything with a sauce in it'

    what are your choices please??????

In back country I like the spaghetti bol and the morrocan lamb.

I mostly get those flavoured packets of tuna and mix with instant mash potato. Cheap, light and good

My mother in law gave me some of the self heating meals. The self hearing thing was neat but they were pretty rank.

I made my own. Cooked up a bunch of mince in a nice bolognese sauce. Then dried it in the oven. Keep it in the freezer till I'm ready to use it.
    Works mint.

Radix nutrition, then Absolute Wilderness, and I'd have to be just about starving before eating BackCountry cardboard

A useful trick with the backcountry meals is to wrap them in a jacket or sleeping bag to keep them warm while they rest, and rest them for about twice as long as it says on the packet. They may be edible after 10 minutes, but they're far nicer and closer to real food after 20.

Backcountry. Anything Asian-inspired, east or south if fine by me, European-style dishes not so much.

Was in a hut late last year with another couple of hunters. All 3 of us pull out Back Country meals for dinner. I commented they taste passable after a day walking around the hills, but you'd struggle to serve one up at home. One of the guys said actually, one evening at home he was too knackered to cook up dinner so just grabbed a BC freeze dry meal. How did that go down I asked. It was 5hit he said LOL.
Got myself a dehydrator last summer and started making up my own meals. Doing the meat in one batch, then rice/kumara/pumkin etc in a second batch then combining them into meal packs doesn't take that much effort and can get about 4 decent meals (like about 800cal each) done at a time.
