    Gas BBQ/grill VS. Pellet Smoker/grill

    Righto, after a few opinions. No doubt some of you are good on a BBQ? Our BBQ is poked, they don't last long when you can smell the sea from the house.
    Was just going to buy another gas one, but have dived deep down the rabbit hole of pellet grills. Looking at sub $2k options. It seems you get a much more robust and build quality from pellet grills for the same $$$.
    They offer better cooking versatility? The only real pitfalls I can see, is they need power, so cant be used when the power goes out. Getting pellets short notice could be a problem...be more organised though!
    We cook a lot, and we're lucky that we really only cook high quality meat (hunting and farming). We're basically cooking all meat on the BBQ at our place from August to May.

    What have you guys got, what would you do in my situation?
    I'm drawn to the mountains and the bush, it's where life is clear, where the world makes the most sense.

    Got a traeger 2 years ago and my old gas BBQ is now dead to me. Not a massive BBQ head but these things are so versatile and so easy, I would never go back.
    Can make they cheapest cut of meat taste restaurant quality with ease

    I use my gas one on the daily, its an older, more solid one than they make these days. When I have more than half an hour to cook I'll light a fire in my brick oven/pit. Gas works just fine for a quick, reliable BBQ, as long as its not a rubbishy cheap one that doesn't get hot.

    I got an oklahoma joe Bronco. Just a charcoal bbq/smoker. Definitely rate the charcoal flavourful over gas. The bronco can be used as a grill or smoker.

    webber Q model or the bigger one, we do all ours roasts on them great steaks but they must be thick chicken ok but I,m not keen on pink chicken due to the gas you get about 40 roasts out of a 9kg bottle great pizzas with the stone they really need a longer gas hose ,I put 2m hose on my 2 and mitre mega best price ,keep your receipts as they honour warranty claims . Our one the paint finish went shitty so they sent new body and make your own stand .

    I have both roasts ect pallet steaks ect gas pallet drys a good veni steak out my 2c anyway

    Recently went charcoal weber, cant beat the flavor of slow cooked what used to be cheaper cuts like beef cheeks,brisket etc and bloody good spatchcocked chicken but it is a lot of fafing around...ok if you got all day.
    My gas bqq is poked too but I will get another cos cant beat it for veni steaks and sausages etc light it up 3 mins and ready to go.

    I know gas is just outdoor frying but unless I win Looto and get one of those remote controlled Treagers, I don't have time to stand around a fire all day

    I use my Pit Boss pellet smoker for long cooks and the Weber Q for relatively smaller and quicker cooks.

    We replaced a Beefeater Bugg with a Weber Spirit and havent looked back. We went with Weber because it has a 10 year warranty and all spare parts are available. Mitre 10 doesn't do the premium Webers, and the Q series they sell doesn't have the thermometer in the hood. The top models in the latest Q series have Bluetooth and an app for temperature / timing, but I couldn't be arsed with that.
