    Hare Stew

I had a special guest coming round tonight so decided to splash out and make this Hare stew. Thank goodness for mobile internet - needless to say, my first time buying capers had me slightly confused in the supermarket!

    Recipe here:

Stew was followed by fresh home-made pumpkin pie of course! Everything was up to standard (so he says) and I am now in bed, polishing off the red! We were too busy chatting to take photos of the meal at the time. It looked and tasted great though. Perfect for an autumn evening.

Good work there Dougie, but having the ingredients all prepared in little bowls like that looks way too organized. Certainly looks like a nice feed.

The smell still gets me a bit eh. I guess I will get used to it! Also kinda tough when the man won't eat it either. Making two dinners sucks.

You could always come from the angle that you "have cooked dinner but if you don't like it you can cook something else for yourself". Damn I should be a relationship consultant with a side business in separation settlement.

You could brine it to tone it down a bit or marinate in milk does a similar thing and tenderizes as well.

You should post a recipe for that Pumpkin pie Dougie. Us kiwi's are not used to that but like Mrs Dundee says, I would give it a go.

Nah Toby I think she did the Americam Pumpkin Pie thing. I don't know much about it but I think they sweeten it over there so it is like a dessert/pudding?

HeyheyheyheyheyHEY. Canadians do Pumpkin Pie too! It's a classic! Very yummy. The trick is to make your own pumpkin puree and not buy the canned stuff. I've always used evaporated milk for mine too instead of cream, not sure how it would turn out with the latter.

Pumpkin pie with a dollop of whipped cream seriously is the way to go on an autumn evening eh. It's sweet but mainly from the type of pumpkin, there is minimal brown sugar added. It's all about the spices too (allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg...)
