La tourte de venaison et risotto chinois pour lequel Larry le jeune cerf a tout donne

Firstly, my french isn't nearly as good as the title suggests it might be. I understand the odd word and phrase here and there.

Just wanted to make it sound elegant and sophisticated.......which it isn't, really.

So I cheated and used an online translate thingy:

The pie of venison and chinese risotto for which Larry the young deer gave his all.

Yes, this is the last of Larry the spiker which I shot back in february.

I have experimented with the venison, something I've never had a chance to do before.

I've had it grilled (George Foreman, you rock) and crockpotted .

This is a the logical extension of the crockpot.

    Firstly the people to thank/blame:

@gadgetman for advice in an old thread about slow cooking meat. Something like "make sure you brown the meat first"
@mrs dundee for the basic idea of how to go about making the pie and how long to cook it for etc
@Micky Duck for a comment about not having to cook risotto, which gave me an idea...

    The Recipe:

*The last of Larry S, cubed, browned in a frypan, and then slung into the crockpot
    *Sachet of Brown Onion gravy
    *Frozen Mixed veges
    *2 dessertspoons of cornflour
    * Enough water to not quite cover everything

Crockpot it for 9 hours. Don't be a plonker and lift the lid like I did.

*Large pack of Chinese Rice risotto
    *4 eggs

Cook the risotto, hard boil the eggs slice into 4 or 5 and mix with risotto.
Leave it to dry and cool, so it doesn't transfer too much moisture to the inside of the pie.

Lay a sheet of puff pastry (you'll need 4-6 sheets depending on how much filling you cook) in a pie dish.

When venison is cooked, spoon in enough to half fill the pie dish.

Add the rice risotto on top till almost level with the top of the pie dish.

Lay another sheet of puff pastry on top.

    Brush top with milk

Put in oven for 30 min @ 180c till golden brown.

To conclude, I believe that we have a moral obligation to experiment with pie filling possibilities for the advancement of civilization.

That's my excuse for putting Rice risotto in a pie. That and the fact that Micky Duck gave the idea.
