I've always been annoyed that I don't have a good way to grind up and use scraps and offcuts of meat. Wondering about getting into some sausage making.
What's a good budget grinder? Are those manual ones any good?

I like the idea of buying a quality manual one
the manual ones like granny used to have still work really well...we bought our last electric one from Kmart.....we have killed 3-4 of them of different types and prices over the last 20 years..... biggest advantage is making mince..... we did the sausage thing ourselves for years..now have decided its easier to just poke bucket of meat..need over 10kgs ....to the butcher and get the final product back packaged up...savalouys are awesome..not mushy wet cardboard like store bought..and real sausages cant be beaten...

Sharki I don't do high volumes, just want to dip my toes in and see how I get on. Especially when I've got a cold smoker sorted.
Hey brad have you seen that one Tasman (nz wild adventures) is using on his videos of late...looks the bees knees for dipping your toes in mate

Its not what you get but what you give that makes a life !!
Yes I have! Very cool video.
That's just a basic manual one isn't it? Seems to do the trick for low volume stuff.
Buy once cry once
Manual is really a pain
It becomes a 2 person job especially stuffing
Manual is good for making fish burley though
Offer to use mine Brad see how u go

Went halves in one a year or so ago. Recommendation from on here actually. It's done 5 deer now, with one getting turned into 5kg of veni saus. Don't usually buy shit, and pretty certain it won't last forever, but at that price, it's been great so far. Just cut the meat up into 3-4cm chunks so you don't work it too hard.
Go to a local butcher and ask for some casings, pork fat, bacon and rip into it. My local butcher suggested 8gm salt per kg meat (but that was pretty salty) and red wine which apparently tenderises the meat.
It's great fun, and you know exactly what goes into them. Did a Thai Green Curry saus once with chicken and beef, pretty bloody good.
bunji likes this.
If you get one of the budget electric ones watch out for the noise they produce, I had one that I could only use for extended time with ear plugs and muffs
