    Tahr shanks!!! Best shanks

We got some tahr on a trip last week and brought home a whole bunch of meat including a few intact legs. I decided to try out tahr shanks in the crockpot. WOW!!

    Recipe:
    Tahr shanks (I had 3)
    Tin of diced tomatoes
    2 litres beef stock
Paprika (as much as you want)
Cumin (as much as you want)
    Salt and pepper
    Onion diced

Method: fry onions until soft. Put the shanks in the crock pot cover with the beef stock and tinned tomatoes. Season with paprika and cumin. Add in onions. Put crock pot on high for 6-8 hours then switch to low for another hour or so. Add salt and pepper to taste.

I served on creamy cheesy mash with a side of peas and corn and a piece of lightly toasted Ciabatta bread.

You can also add cornflour to the leftover sauces to make a thicker gravy.

Highly recommend this recipe for first time tahr tasters as it is very similar in tast to lamb shanks just a bit less fatty.

The mrs was happy so that says it all. Hope you guys enjoy this as much as i did.

Nice. I can recommend frying off the spices before you add the fluid (just after the onions are done would be perfect) - they will release a lot my flavour and aroma.

Did a fallow shank (not knuckles) on wednesday, last of it is going in a pie the missus is making for tea tonight. Feed 2 for three days good value for a .55c bullet.

Cook the onions, throw in the spices for 30s or so, then throw it in with the tomatoes etc.

I use red wine vinegar, plum sauce, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms and oregano for my shanks in the crock pot.
