Wifes home made vege soup

We fellas lucky enough to have a good wife will all at some stage be presented with her famous vege soup...made with love from the surplus veges grown in garden or bought cheaply be it tomatoe ,pumpkin or allsorts combined...
we dutifully say "yes please dear " when offered and say"thankyou dear it was lovely" after consuming with many heaps toast to give it some guts(if anyone shows this post to my wife I will deny all and claim account has been hacked) so semi palitable.
next season its the same again..maybe a cauliflower soup for a change.
Duck season sees us shoot a few feathered foe and we scoff them down all through the year but often there is bits left over from meal that sit in fridge waiting to be chucked in sammies or chucked out in bin
TRY THIS.... take cold cuts of meat and slice thinly across the grain..add this into that lovely homemade soup and stir well,two duck breasts will fit in bowl of soup easily and WOW what a great combo,the veges give it added flavour and the meat breaks up into wee bits giving soup some texture and added flavour.

Hey MD this reminds me of the early days when I was trying to impress my Mrs, she would hand me a small plate with nuts, berrys, chips and chocolate on it. I would walk out the back door, eat the chips and chocolate and throw the remaining contents as far as I could then walk back inside and say thanks that was nice.

I only told her a year or so back and she was not impressed :XD:

My wife made soup yesterday- she was so sick with a cold or flu and couldn't taste anything.
I ate it happily but today with the leftovers I suggested she try add more salt... She tasted it, added chilli and cream and it was a whole different soup. Absolutely beautiful.
All the meat from the bone had sunk to the bottom, so the portions tonight we're super meaty too.

Yeh bit of sour cream or sweet Chilli sauce can be a complete transformation. For those who haven't tried it, a tablespoon or 2 in a pot of pumpkin soup is amazing.

My mother in law used to make beautiful vege soup with a bacon hock. When see wasn’t looking, I’d add a handful of barley, made it even better. I got banned from the kitchen.
I have and aircore, great for making soup, works on latent heat. Bacon hock, $10 at pak n save with painted on smoke. I’ll have to go to a real butcher next week

My goto soup is a 1/2 bunch celery, 5 chicken legs, 1kg grated carrot, 1 peeled ginger root, a bit of soy sauce, cracked pepper, 1L water, 2L chicken stock-yes I know using stock is cheating.

I'll quite often make a double of this and freeze icecream containers of it. great as is or as a base to use for steamboat etc.

Pearl barley for some reason really adds to the flavor and even after hours and hours of cooking still has texture

Pearl barley is an absolute requirement for soup in my house

I used to turn the soup to barley soup, you spooned it out, was so thick, yum

vege is evil.

The beautiful wife and I have prepped a big vege soup this morning. Will feed the family for the next 2 nights, good cheap feed when you have a couple of teenage boys in the house. And yes,it contains pearl barley and bacon.

2 essential ingredients.
Me Nan always started it off with an unhealthy amount of bacon bones, and pearl barley was a staple. I'd pick the celery out but we've been using the same method for 30+ years. Who knows how long it's been going through the family.

My beloved knocked out an absolute cracker of a pumpkin soup the other day, one of her pumpkins decided to start going mouldy around the stem so off with it's head and what to do with it...

Chopped into chunks (broke a carving knife and damn near took my finger off) and into the crock pot on medium for a day. Once thoroughly chopped, add paprika, spices and herbs etc (I think there was a bit of curry powder or chilli maybe, I'd have to check what got biffed in). Once cooking complete it was munched up with the stick blender and what a surprise.

Equally as good as anything I've had at top restaurants - you could sell it and have people coming back for more. She surprised herself I think!

Not a huge soup fan. Prefer something a little more solid. Stew is about as far as I usually go towards soup. Must be from those days as a kid eating that horrible alphabet soup. Yuk. . . .

if you chuck enough bits of meat into a soup it more or less becomes a stew LOL.

Even a New World pre cooked chicken, throw the carcass in the press cooker with water, strain it. Makes a good base for a soap.

Boiled hogget bones with garlic and onion to a broth, added bacon hock after 12hr, then at 36hr added potatoes and greens from garden. Salt and I'm loosing patience for dinner time.
Everyone's crook at home so brothy meaty soup should help!

Duck ill go one better .im the only duck eater in the house and like you dont waste anything .right out with crockpot slowcooker .hunt the larder fridge etc any veges looking lonely slice and dice into pot with 3-4 spuds chunked and what ever seasonings you like . chuck in a bottle /can of your favourite ale and a 600mls water which should keep the duck wet!!!!!

leave the bugger to gurggle for 8hrs .
right after that lift duck out -meat willfall off bone -have a bloody good big feed and then any left overs veges in pot or on carcasse gets put into blender and hey ho way we go duckshooters soup !!!Idid this with a goose breast and parrie one awhile ago and put two lots in the freezer.bloody great in thew thermos flask if its shitty weather in the maimaisoupand a brew sand ya refuelled. caution excessive dosages of this concoction can result in assorted noises and perfumes wafting from waders -this int urn may result in other maimai occupants enquiring as to the health of your innards or commenting on your supposed decomposition!dont say you werent warned!!!
