Update: it didn't work.
Specifically it would fire one shot just fine but when you attempt to cycle the bolt manually the spent brass always remains stuck in the chamber.
My guess is the bolt moves a fraction of a mm just due to slop In the bolt handle or whatever and it allows the extractor to get ripped off the back of the rim and sometimes simply cycling the bolt a second time grabs the rim and extracts the case, but sometimes it stays stuck in the chamber with some obvious damage where the extractor slipped off the rim.
My ear-ometer could only really detect about 5% more quietness firing from the locked forwards bolt anyway.
Just get a bolt action haha lesson learned
