    45 Long Colt SMLE

Been thinking about doing an Enfield, probably a No.1 of some description, in 45 LC.....after seeing Wingman's DeLisle's I've got the bug again
I was thinking of using M1 Carbine mags in a similar setup as the DeLisles with the set back barrel.
Anyone done one of these, or in 44 mag, any info would be appreciated...

I built mine many years ago and can't find and decent pics of it. There's two ways of doing it and if I did it again I'd do it different.
My build had the mag up front without shortening the bolt and pushing the barrel back. It was as simple as welding a flat plate to the bottom metal and cutting a new hole for the mag. I made a short protruding sleve to fit around the mag an had a thin spring steel mag catch in the back of it. I fitted a .45 barrel and blanked off the hollow section between the back of the mag and the extractor screw so brass didn't drop in the void. The mag held 6 rounds from memory.

If I was to do it again I'd shorten the bolt and recess the barrel to run the mag back by the trigger gaurd. I'd make a full mag insert sleeve and solder a rib on the back of the mag to use the smle mag catch.
The mag needs to be almost vertical to feed the 45 colt propperly so it can't follow the angle of the trigger gaurd like the Delisle mag does. No mods to bolt face, extractor or ejector would be needed.
Something like this but with a mag insert sleeve to fit the mag
