Finally got my hands on a piece of ebony for the grip cap, although it hasn't really been cut the way I would like it will do the job just fine and the price was right.

Just read through all 4 plus pages, and have to say this is right up there with the best overhaul of a firearm I've seen. Keen to see the progress and final outcome!

Thanks mate, its been slow going with the odd evening here and there but certainly enjoyable.

I sighted in the new scope a few weeks ago but wasn't in a position to do any proper load testing at the time.

Parent cartridge is the 7x57 (or 8x57 to be exact)
It certainly has some herbs, hopefully I can feed it to a deer before too long

Been a while, have started to rough out the shape of the stock.
Ignore the butt pad and grip cap, they are just placeholders to get the shape.

Doesn't look like much has changed but there is quite a bit of timber that has come off since last photos.
Still a bit more to go through the wrist and pistol grip area

What a great thread! Really enjoyed reading it and you are a very clever bloke. Wish I had half your skills.

Cheers mate, I'm not half as skilled as quite a few of the guys on here.
A mate did the machining of the barrel for me too, I might have been able to do it myself but in twice the time and probably much rougher haha

More slow progress, had to hand fit the recoil pad as the belt broke on the sander almost straight away. I could have waited till I got a new belt but spare time is limited!
