G'day @Tararuas hunter... 3400fps from a 105gr Berger is a mighty hot load for that bullet / cartridge combo. Like hotter than Mr. Naidoo's maximum Phaal curry... ring sting alert! I've just Quickload-ed the details you gave us, that's like 68-70,000 psi man. Why do it?
I would have thought you'd find it hard to find a high BC 6mm bullet that will hold together sub-250m, at those velocities. The Accubond (90gr not 95) is a tough bullet but not high BC, and you can shoot that from a .243 Win at 3200fps or thereabouts.
No offence at all - these things are always interesting - but what's the point? Just something to do, something interesting? Which I totally understand. No criticism intended, just asking why step outside the pretty well established 6mm design limits? There's only a few percent here and there (10%?) between regular cartridges (e.g. 6mm Creedmoor) and wildcat barrel burners that push the pressure limits. But those few percent can be enough for a bullet to work, or not work well at all, to the detriment of the animal (and the barrel). I'm no expert by the way, just been around a few spectacular wildcat high velocity failures over the years.
To my mind, I'd be focusing on the bullet construction real hard, as its not really on to use bullets outside their terminal performance limits. The Bergers are well iffy past a certain point (in my experience). And I say that as a hunter who chooses bullets at the frangible end, rather than the controlled expansion end, of the terminals spectrum. But my MVs are normal, not supercharged.
Just some honest feedback... Velocity is great, but too much can be a problem! Physics always wins mate. I'd be looking at the 103gr ELD-X as an option, and you need to reconsider powder, AR2209 should get you under pMax, around 60,000psi, for 3300fps, which is a good return though I'd still be wary of the close up performance at those speeds.
You don't say what the twist rate of the 6mm-284 is?
